RESISTANCE - HERMENEUTICS OF SUSPICION (PART FIVE - A SHORT ADDENDUM)

Part Five of the ‘Hermeneutics of Suspicion’ was written by Jack Stanza, for his son Nic, who we know as Strix. It tells Nic about Jack’s torture and eventual death at the hands of Arnold Chiron, during his incarceration at Lincoln Gaol. We assume that this was at some point, meant to find its way into the hands of Nic.

Nic is also taught about the methods of propaganda at the hands of the then Minister of (State) Communications, Joseph Gobelet. Jack cites a speech by Gobelet about a relocation project to the countryside. (Part of the re-settling programme that Nic would go on to speak of as, the missing 13 million people. For both Jack and Nic, the State is the harbinger of death and the date recorded in this article are a reminder of that status. Google them and you’ll see what I mean!

In Paul and Jack’s mind, there was a shared point of view that they ought to expands the languages used in the making of this publication, to utilise Braille. It was part of the resistance’s method to use many languages in its publications, to thwart the State’s quick understanding of dissident activities.

Short Addendum for a New Age. By Jack Stanza

For Nic - The old manuscript ended there. Time and resources were scarce. This was our samizdat. We were harried and hounded, escaping from one place to the next. There were no real, open trials, no hearings for justice. The law courts were full of miracle workers (judges) who had healed Lady Justice; for once she was blind, but now she sees.

I was processed and sent to Lincoln Gaol, where Alexander Chiron interrogated me with this document in his hand, as proof of my unpatriotic and decadent life. After all I was ‘living in sin’ (unmarried) to a model/whore. He mocked me, humiliated me with his invasive interrogation techniques. The only release I got from this was on the day of my death.

A Minister of Communications

Recently when Gobelet spoke, it was just air moving without meaning, but here it is in all its dehumanising form.

“You are our collateral, the very thing our economy is based upon. We need your resolve to help accumulate wealth, to help us grow our economy. That wealth is rooted in our nation and that is solely because of your resolve.

Because of your resolution we are committed to being a benevolent State, providing you with housing, education and employment.

The relocation of the rural population has been achieved so that the land can be purified from all agricultural chemical pollution. We can then employ some of you in agricultural work on new national farms - once the land is safe from contaminates and can be inhabited and cultivated again.

To this end you will see a pamphlet coming through your doors called ‘Putting the soil first, for a greater Britain’. You will be asked if you want to be a part of this relocation of resources. It is your decision; there is no coercion and we as your Ministers, your servants, are counting on you to register for relocation to rural designations and reassignments of work.

This green and pleasant land will soon be able to sustain a working population again, as we remedy the mistakes of the past and refuel the economy. We are after all, “One People, One State, One Destiny.”

(Pauses for applause)

“As I said, there will be no coercion. I realise that some of you have families and communities that are dear to you. You will therefore have 2 months to register your interest in this visionary project. Those patriots who do so will be offered tax-free housing, as a sign of our commitment to you, our greatest assets. Your new ‘Living Room’ will be the green fields of England. We are all children of the soil and together we can help this land flourish again, so that the harvests will be plenty and Eden will return to earth.”

I remember this speech. The Press said it was a ‘triumph’, but then Gobelet probably wrote the review. For me it was the triumph of density over clarity and the ‘appearance of giving solidity to pure wind’ as Orwell once described it. But that’s the art of the illusionist; to combine opacity of message and the solidity of pure wind - noises without meaning, words without truth.

The hidden intent I think can’t be found in the lack of coercion, but in an explicit inducement to relocate and help fuel the economy. This was, I think, an attempt to try and break up any ‘unreliable and disruptive elements’ in the Projects. Some would be open to the bribe and others would resist.

This is their response to recent acts of resistance, or terrorism as they like to call it - Clarence Sealy being the last public demonstration of disclamation.

We must be wiser. We must be alert and understand that a dying monster is still dangerous; its claws can still rip the flesh from the bones of the resistance movement.
