‘Violence is not Radical Action’ - from Strix’s Journal

Strix’s Journal covers issues such as personal ennui and powerlessness, social analysis and spiritual longings. Strix is learning the methods of writing through his journal entries, slowly. His aspiration is to be a writer like his father, Jack. Whilst poetry is far from Strix, social critique lies deep in his heart.

In this early time of writing, we see his frustrations of being alone and never feeling he’d find anyone to share love with. Is it a desperate attempt to try and come to terms with a sense of abandonment, after losing both his parents to the State Security Services ?

Whilst being left at the door of the Greenfields Orphanage, he was confronted with Matronly severity and cruelty. It must have a long way from the home where he was surrounded with so much love from family and friends. Abandonment is an overused word these days, but I think Strix’s life qualifies for such a descriptive label.

The journals then, are an outpouring of a lost soul earnestly desiring to be found by someone.
